Feria

 Summer party end of July

Each year at the very end of July, the beginning of august, the village of Canillas hosts a grand fiesta in honour of her patron saint ”Virgin Rosario”, (the virgin of the Rosary).

It is a long weekend of warm sirrocco winds and late, late nights awaiting the cool air of daybreak. It is fun and fiesta, music, dance and entertainment for all ages.

Feria time commences with the, Corrida de cintas. It is the traditional race of the horses and mules which has lately been joined by all the bikes of the village and is always entertaining.

Saturday morning is always fun and entertainment for the children, families and grand-parents. entertainment goes on throughout the night into the early hours.

Sunday commences the closure with a colourful Romeria; horses and riders all dressed in their finery accompany “Virgin Rosario” as the people parade her from the mass held at the top of the village. from the hermita Santa Ana she is borne on the shoulders of the men as they take her down to “el Llano”..(a shrine may be found here in honour of the Virgin).

as the light fades the rockets shoot up into the dark sky exploding the announcement of the end of the feria. The final offering is a grand and spectacular array of fireworks, a truly awesome display.

Feria is the summer party of the village of Canillas .She opens her arms to her neighbours and visitors.
