Los Reyes
three kings

Though some children will have already received a gift, it is traditional to
await the visit of the three kings, Los Reyes.
In the first week of January, just before school opens her doors for the new
spring term, Los Reyes arrive in Canillas.
The three kings, elegantly clad,
mount their steeds at sundown and begin their
procession through the village
streets to the plaza. Along the way, accompanied by an entourage of adults and
children armed with bags, the Kings throw fistfuls of tiny sweets, caramelos,
into the air and into the open doorways. Fun for everyone. On arrival at the plaza the processions stops, the Kings dismount and take up
their thrones. Each child of the village is called by name and given a kiss and
a gift. As presents are un-wrapped there is a great atmosphere of excitement and
the little people of the village are happy. Many families will take the
opportunity to have a final family Christmas supper and the children have
only a few remaining days to play with their new toys before school calls her
scholars back to study.
